What can you use the app for?

MapYourVote is an online polling system that lets users view popular opinion on any subject or issue. The user can participate in polls on a wide range of topics, from whether global warming should be a concern to whether or not the individual like cats. The user can create multiple responses based on the topic of the poll. MapYourVote literally maps out the responses on an embedded Google Map so the user can see where responses originated from. Users can search existing polls or create a new poll to introduce another question to the MapYourVote community. Polls can be rated as well so users posting popular or meaningful questions are easier to identify.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

MapYourVote was founded in December of 2011. The application was designed to let internet users ask questions and get answers from a large online community. The application took things a step further by including the results on a Google Map so the user can see where popular responses are coming from. So far the application has not received tremendous popularity but maintains an active community that continue to grow.

What are the differences to other apps?

Online surveys are not a new thing. MapYourVote takes a popular internet activity and adds more appeal to it. Users can not only respond to polls but also view the results by geographic location. This provides more detail for users who are posing questions as well as anyone curious about the results and where they come from. The application also lets users’ rate poll, which allows users to share their opinions on whether the poll was well-worded, interesting and helpful.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

MapYourVote utilizes a grey background offset by it brightly colored logo which features bold blue, yellow and red. The layout is relatively clean, although it feels a bit busy at times. The user is presented with the poll to the left and the map to the right with ratings below. All the information is available and easy to access, however the user may need a moment to find what they are looking for on the page.

How does the registration process work?

Visitors can join the MapYourVote community by clicking the “Join” link in the upper, right hand corner of the homepage. A box appear with three login options. Users can click the blue button to sign up with a Facebook account or the grey button to sign up the traditional way. A light grey button is available for user who wish to sign in as a guest. Guest accounts receive less access and expire after the browser close or become idle. Users who go the traditional route are asked for a username, password, email address, date of birth, country and zip code.

What does it cost to use the application?

MapYourVote offers its services to all users at no cost. There are no subscription fee and the user doesn’t have to pay anything to create or participate in polls. There are many other websites that offer free poll building tools, so this is a good thing for MapYourVote. Users will be more inclined to sign up or free and start sharing their opinions or creating new interesting polls for the user community.

Who would you recommend the application to?

MapYourVote is a great tool for anyone who is curious or likes a good online poll. The application may have some benefit for professionals and marketers who want to direct questions to the average internet audience however the site design is not entirely professional. User can search for and participate in polls or ask a question to see if a larger group agrees or disagrees with them.
